Friday the 13th Box Set

I was in Best Buy today and I found this in the Horror Movie section:

I didn’t even know that this thing existed! I knew that there was a Friday the 13th set that came out about 8 years ago,but that set is nothing compared to this one.  With this set you get the first 8 movies, a book that gives you stats on the movies, a replica hockey mask and 2 pairs of 3D glasses for Friday the 13th Part 3.  WOW, that’s a lot of stuff for hard core horror fans!!!!!!

I’ve always wondered something though:  how come both this set and the original set only has the first 8 films?  Why don’t they include Jason Goes To Hell or Jason X?  The Nightmare on Elm Street box set has all 7 of the original films, so why can’t we get the last two crappy films of this franchise?

This beautiful masterpiece is only $40 at Best Buy and I am thinking about purchasing it.  Hmmmmmmmmm, a Friday the 13th box set or a new pair of shoes?  Decisions, decisions, decisions.  Most likely I’ll cave in and buy the box set because I already have enough shoes, but a horror fan can truly never get enough horror.

  1. The reason why Jason goes to hell, and Jason in space are never on box set releases is because those were made by newline cinema. While the first eight film were from Paramount. This is why I believe we have yet to see a complete Friday set. Paramount sold Friday over to Newline, but I believe they got to keep rights to the eight films prior.

This issue is also similar to the Chucky killer collection, which contains Child’s Play 2, and 3. Bride of Chucky, and Seed of Chucky. But does not contain the first film. In this case MGM has rights to the first film, thus not in the set. Due to MGM selling rights over to Universal after the first film.

  2. I wish full sets would come out though. I believe in other countries they have complete sets, given different companies have the rights over yonder. Any who. The new Friday set looks pretty nifty. I like when editions have a little more effort put into them, sometimes this can be a good thing or a bad thing though.

  3. I think that’s also why the Friday films were named as ‘Jason’ films from New Line onwards. They last the rights to the name
